I've picked up an old Scott Bonner and am unsure of the model or if its a 4 or 2 stroke motor. I think it has 14" cutting width?

Identification assistance and fuel mix requirements would be appreciated.

It looks like a 2 stroke. It has a red tube fuel tank with rounded ends on top. The tank has a sticker on one end that says Castrol XL oil is recommended when new. The spark plug is on top of the engine with an earth / grounding cover attached to the engine and hanging over the plug to kill the engine.

Thanks for any help.

fedup2d8,

It looks like it could be a four stroke Kirby H4 engine which was fitted to the scott Bonnar model 450407 but not 100% sure.

Can you read the information on the plate near the starter which is pop riveted to the frame?cheers2

Hi fedup2d8 and Bruce, the mower is definately a Model 40 Scotty but the engine is completely different to the one I had which was a Villiers 4 stroke, however the carby and filter look the same.Bit of a puzzle isn't it? crazy Regards, Darryl

I am leaning to a four stroke because of the position of the inlet and exhaust. All looks like a Villiers as the carby is for one. cheers2

Hi all. Thanks so much for the help. Hopefully the following will help give some more identification.

The Plate on the mower says
Mower no. 40 07329

There is a stamped number on the engine at the front base.
The number is in 2 parts and the first part is a little hard to read. The best I can come up with is the following.
2105(v or x or y) then 26566
