Saw this old mower at the garage sale. It didn't seem to have much compression. It was the womans favorite mower as it had a big fuel tank, but one day it just stopped.
That motor is big, looks like B&S maybe 5 HP??
It didn't sell but I guess you would get it for $5.

Looks like a 5HP Briggs alright. I would love to get the air cleaner off it for the one on my Gibson rotary hoe.

G'day Speedy & Aussietrev
It's rare to see these Tiller-Mowers nowadays.
Originally powered by Kirby engines they first appeared in the mid-1960s,
but did stay in production until about the mid-to-late 1970s. They were
not part of the Rover Range when Rover became Gilson distributors.

The first Briggs fitted were 10 Series 4hp, but later machines had the 13 Series
5hp. This one appears to have had a short motor fitted at some point. So it
could very easily be a 4hp starter on a 5hp motor. The air cleaner and
muffler are not original for this model.

The motor was mounted via a bayonet fitting. They were not great sellers.
I do hope this one is saved - even if it no longer has the cultivator head.

Thanks for sharing this one Speedy.

Hi Aussietrev,
If you want me to buy it for you and you can pick it up next trip north , for $5 to $10. I'll have to store it in a mates shed as my missus was unhappy with no 4 mower, she hasn't found no 5 mower yet..........
Thanks Cyberjack for the data on it. I would like to keep but I'm not going there...............

I bet there is not much wrong with the mower.... you know how people just put them away and get a new one, or older people get someone to mow their lawn.

Speedy I'm lucky, my missus doesn't count them any more, I think once it got over 30, it all got too hard, because I kept moving them around so she lost track of them and after a while they all look the same. I just have to make sure I can shut the shed each night so she doesn't notice things changing laugh

I have a Rover Tiller Mower too, it runs great. Very smooth. It is from 1970. From what I can work out it's the 4HP model. Unfortunately I don't have the tiller part for it.
