I have never understood cigarette advertising...

But I mean, who would light a cig. over the petrol
tank of an outboard. I love the words, "It's toasted..."

Jack, I worked in a "Service Station", you remember the ones where you got service. Old Joe the mechanic was a constant smoker and always had a smoke in his mouth when he was filling up cars at the pumps and nobody really took any notice, I remember the boss commented a couple of times to me saying that he wished Joe wouldn't do that, but that was as far as it went

G'day Norm

Another great story there. I love them!

Poor Ol' Joe.
Who would have thought that tragic Guy Fawkes' Night would be his un-doing...
Joe is remembered in a number of surrounding suburbs. grin

Cheers

My Dsd worked at an airport........
One pilot planning to takeoff as early as possible, filled his plane with av gas just before firstlight. He couldn't exactly how full the tank was, so just used his cigarette lighter to help.........
end of story.

Been a while since I posted here. There's hasn't been much to do with outboards posted lately.

I'm a smoker so I recognise the Lucky Strike brand, clearly American.

But I also recognise the outboard, because we had our own version or copy of it (the Atom Waterboy) made right here in OZ. Braeside, Victoria actually.

The smallest of the Waterboy outboards were fitted with a Croydon Trojan engines. The mid range and higher hp units were fitted with Hurricane Air-cooled and Hurricane Water-cooled engines respectively.

Hope you guys don't mind me throwing that bit of Trivia in to the mix.

G'day AusAnzani

Thanks for that AUS connection - to the Atom outboard.
Many thanks for the Trojan and Hurricane associations.

For me, trivia leads to truth.
ODK is not an outboard site, but it captures members'
associated interests; because small outboards have garden product
connections. It is a great topic of interest.

I look on yourself as a Guardian Angel for outboard discussion on these forums.

Cheers

Don't think I've ever ben called a Guardian Angel before, and not quite sure how to take it. smile

Might convert to mowers some day, but for now I'll stick to spinning props.

Are you intending to make your way to the Wooden Boat Festival this year? I am thinking about it but need some encouragement!

Spiro

G'day Spiro - good to hear from you!
Alas, no ... not this year ... for the simple reason the Boat Festival
is next year - in February, 2017.

http://www.australianwoodenboatfestival.com.au/

It is the number one event on my calendar.
The Festival takes in the whole of Sullivan's Cove from Hunter St to Princes Wharf
and Castray Esplanade. I guess about 5 mins drive from my digs.

It is such an exciting event!. I can't wait to strike up a Lucky
over that outboard, bottom left. grin

My bad, of course its next year. But I'm sure you knew what I meant.

Good work on spotting the Waterboy at the bottom left corner of the pic. grin

Will speak with you closer to the event.

Regards,
Spiro
