Hi all,

I have been asked many times to do a "Definitive Pictorial" of Scott Bonnar colours used over the years on their Cylinder Cut Mowers.

Please Note that there were a few other colours used within the range. They were Hammertone paints in the following colours, "Machine Pacific Blue" and "Machine Grey" which were used on Model 45 "Lawn Kings", also "Machine Gold" was used on earlier Model 33 "Lawn Kings" in very limited numbers.

Machine Pacific Blue:

The 4 mainstream colours are featured below.

1st. Alpine Green: Used from Pre 1968 built machines, in slight variants of colour shade up until late 1976. Wrinkle Black paint was utilised on the Chain case and Handle bar Shield in the final run of Alpine Green finished Mowers in 1976 just prior to the release of Apple Green.

The above catcher is from a late 1976 Electric 14 inch mower which sports the Red and White Scott Bonnar Decal.

2nd. Apple Green: Used from late 1976 until 1984 in both the Adelaide and the replacement Brisbane Plant.

This Model 45 is an original factory made survivor and NOT a repainted or Restored Machine.

3rd. Kermit Green: This colour was instigated by the introduction of the "NEW" Rover Powder Coating line in Brisbane.

Note the change of Engine Colour to Black. This combination was not Pretty in my eyes and sold poorly. All these Kermit Green units were Powder Coated and definitely NOT painted.

4th. Rover Red: Used on the last 2 variants of the Model 45,
Mk I forward facing clutch lever and Mk II Rear facing lever

The above depicted mower is the later Mk II and last issued "Model 45 Reel Mower" prior to cease of production.
Note the rearward facing Primary Clutch Lever. Rover Red was Powder Coated only and NOT painted.

I hope that this clarifies any confusion created over the years as to what name each colour is called on this Forum.

Cheers,
BB.

Hi Damo

These are great images you supplied.

The first Model 33s (not Lawn Kings) seem to have two colours, and I don't know
which came which first. I suspect the aqua green (not hammertone) was
the inital ...?

I'm hoping Mod BB can make sense of these two colours and
recommend suitable modern colours.

Following up from a phone conversation between Jack and myself I've decide to put up the following,

Just an update to this post regarding the colours used, the first "Solid Colour" aqua machine pictured has no colour name to date while the lower pictured machine is a Hammertone paint in the shade of "Alpine Green" which was introduced in the 1960's and ran right through until late 1976 until it was replaced with "Apple Green". I am going to locate a near identical colour so that it can be generically ordered from local paint suppliers. As previously documented on this forum all paint information has been destroyed long ago (1980) when Scott Bonnar changed hands to Rover and thus information is really thin on the ground.

Cheers,
BB.
