Well it's my first post and I just want to say thank you.
From what I've found and read here I've been able to sort my 17" 4508 that I bought at a house clearance for just $50 some 12 months ago.
I've replaced the clutch body with the new type that uses the grub screws, the captive cotter pin having long since jumped ship and had flogged out the bore of body so the whole mower shook, rattled and ran very erratically. Thankfully the shaft wasn't too badly damaged with just minor wear on the keyway.
I got all my parts this morning and it's now running so so much better. No hunting and running very smoothly.
Thanks everyone.

Hi John M G,

Also a big warm welcome from myself.

Hey I'm really glad that you've managed to find all the info that was required to solve your issues on your Model 45 Scotty. $50 is a pretty good price for one of these machines, but as always most of these machines just get shoved into the darkest corner by their previous owners as it's all too hard and expensive for that matter if the work has to be done by a lawnmower shop, thus they just sit there and rot.

Thank goodness for people like yourself that rescue these unloved machines and turn an ugly duckling back into a beautiful Swan.

Again a big warm :welcome:

Cheers,
BB.
