Collected this Masport 642 2-stroke mower in not working condition in April last year. When I got it back to a mates workshop, I found it had reasonable good compression and spark, so we gave it a little shot of "Start Ya Bastard" in the plug hole and it fired. Put fuel in the tank and it leaked from the fuel line intake knuckle and the primer bulb, which sucked. Been slack on getting back to working on it, but after pulling the carbie off and cleaning it several times since then, due to the ongoing fuel leaking from the primer bulb, I finally got it running on its own last week. Woohoo!!!
From what I have found, the Tecumseh 2-stroke is an uncommon, if not rare, engine.
My brother-in-law loves the Tecumseh engines, and he also loves his old Victa Utility, which has now ceased working so, as it seems to be a rare motor, I'm looking at transplanting the TVXL840 onto his utility base in place of the Victa 2-stroke as I know he would appreciate and respect the engine for what it is.

Not sure if it will mount on the Utility base using the Victa 2-stroke spacers for clearances, but will find out when I get around to giving it a go.
I still need to get the Governors and Throttle adjustments worked out as it isn't getting full revs at the moment, but happy it's running on its own. Still may have a slight fuel weep at the primer bulb too. Hoping getting it going and a good run around the lawn may help.
Any thoughts on rarity and possible issues mounting the engine on a Utility base???
There was not section for the Tecumseh 2-stroke, except for classified as "All others", and no result when using Search Function for Tecumseh 2-Stroke.
Have a great day.
Cheers
Daryl

I wanted to Post this in the Gallery section, but I kept getting the Error Message advising I have to have at least one image. What the???? I had these above images and, no matter what order I put them within the Post, being Top, middle or bottom, it still came up with the same error message.... Oh well, at least I got to Post my Tecumseh 2-Stroke somewhere on the Forum. :-)
Anyhow, the leak in the fuel line at the intake elbow was fixed with Araldite 5-minute expoxy.
The worst thing with the carby, was the little spring inside to keep pressure on the float. I guess it must have something to do with the revs of a 2-stroke as it is not used on the 4-stroke carburetor. I lost it for several months, but found it again out of pure luck. Pulled the carbie back off, gave it another clean, installed the spring back onto the float and fuel leak from primer has albeit ceased. Just seems to have a slight weep. Maybe a new seat is needed????

Well, the fuel leak through the primer bulb has returned again, so I have ordered a new Needle and Seat for the machine. Hopefully, that will fix this issue.
Has anyone done a changeover of a Tecumseh 2-stroke across to an old fashioned Victa Utility?
Thank you.
Daryl

Daryl, I have a Masport looks exactly the same as the one in the pic except it has a Briggs on it. Briggs bolt pattern measures 158mm and 164mm center to center between the 3 bolts and if you are talking about the old Victa Utility with the 4 mounting bolts then it won't fit

Thank you for your reply Norm.
Just gave myself a Gibbs and a hit on the forehead for not thinking about the base hole pattern. Never gave that a thought as I am used to seeing multiple pattern holes in the Victa bases to cater for alternate motors to be mounted.
I have just checked some of the old Victa Utilities I have and found I have three different styles.
One caters for the original full-crank 2-stroke engine:-

Another for the half-crank power-torque with the wider 4-bolt pattern, and
I realised that I also have one with a Briggs & Stratton 4-stroke mounted on it with the 3-hole mount.

My brother-in-laws machine currently has the half-crank power-torque mounted on it and is a 4-bolt with no extra holes in the deck to cater for other engines so, looks like a repair job on the base with the B&S 4-stroke may be the go.
I had better check the length of the bottom end shaft before I get too excited, but hopefully it will work out and can swap the Tecumseh 2-stroke over to the alternate Utility frame, which needs some serious TLC for rust. :-)
Appreciate your assistance.
Have a great day.
Cheers.
Daryl.
