Hi guys, I have recently acquired an old B&S 5hp unit (132432 model) which appears to have a fuel leak from the base of the fuel tank. The previous owners I don't think took much care of this unit. Can anyone assist by advising if this is a fatal issue or is it able to be fixed without costing an arm and a leg? On close examination there appears to be a section of tank which has possible corroded, fallen off, and the possible location of the issue. Please see the attached photo. If this is beyond repair, what current models would be advised to replace it with? B&S vs Honda? Any assistance will be greatly appreciated.
Many thanks, Oakie.

I can repair it for you but postage to and back from Melb would probably cost you both arms and legs

Thanks Normk, unfortunately I'd need one if not both to keep up to the lawn sorry! Is it a big job to fix if I can find someone more local?

Oakie, bit hard to tell what sort of job it is to fix but I wouldn't expect it to be too difficult. Problem is you need oxy to do this and most places freak out when you say it is a petrol tank. Petrol tanks are ok to weld, but cleaning them out is extremely important, I have welded countless motorcycle petrol tanks over the years

Really depends how rusty the inside of the tank is if it worth saving too. It also depends how the 292945 tank in your area. Here it is around 100 usd including shipping.

If it is just a small area then as NormK said it can blazed welded just got to extra careful and make sure tank in well cleaned and vented.
