Is the bottom oil seal from a Chonda "gardeners choice - Sanli" the
same as a Honda oil seal part? Any help.

Hi Christo, not sure if it's the same as a honda but i bought one last week for a gardener's choice from a seal and bearing mob. The one i bought was a 25mm ID, 38mm OD. i saw them on fleabay after i paid $12 for it for $5-$6 from an aussie seller.

If memory serves correctly from Grumpys previous posts the Gardeners Choice is a fairly accurate copy of the GXV140 series of engines.

If you find the seal to suit this series of engines and double check the ID and OD measurements you should be fine.

With all Chondas you can never really guarantee until you measure them all up.

Thanks guys. Looked forever on the net to no avail. I took the seal out & went to CBC bearings. They ordered one in for $10.20. Now that I have the part number (TC12457) I went and ordered some more at a cheaper rate from a web site here in Aus. Very satisfying to put mowers like these back into service again. (this one had cut only about one lawn from new. regards to all.

Christo, could you see any reason for the seal to fail with such low usage, We know these are cheap mowers but I guess sometimes you could get a seal damaged in production or assembly. I would expect your spare seals will gather dust unless there is something wrong with the crank where the seal runs. The fact it had only cut one lawn, was it not still under warranty, or is that a silly question?

Sorry for late reply. The cause of seal damage was that the owner had used the mower for mowing up palm fonds (is that the right spelling?). Apparently they wrap around the shaft and damage the seal eventually. regards Chris.

Thanks Christo, so it wasn't the Chondas fault
