Good afternoon Gentlemen!

Ive just finished putting my (formerly) trusty old Stihl FS 36 back together after cleaning the carburettor, and I couldnt help noticing that the Fuel Cap on my machine doesnt appear to have a vent-hole in it

So, the obvious question that begs is - If the Caps on these units dont have a hole in them, how are their Fuel Tanks managing to breathe?

Just as an odd aside - the underneath of the Cap looks a little like a Cap would normally look if it was going to have a vent-hole on top somewhere, even though there isn't one(?)

Many Thanks in advance,
Mike.

According to the IPL here the tank is vented using a tank vent very similar to the Echo tank vent. It is an one way check valve with a filter inside usually.

Now depending which tank version you have it may be short length of fuel line or may be press in the tank via a grommet near the filler neck end.

Ahoy there AVB, and many thanks across 14,368km (from Brisbane to Tennessee, according to Google...) for the typically-American hospitality of your reply!

Nicely spotted. I actually have the Exploded Parts Diagram here myself, but I didn't bother to look at it because I didn't notice anything like a check-valve anywhere on the tank when I had the machine apart recently (mind you, I wasn't looking for one at the time...)

Well, I guess I'll have to strip the machine down again in order to get to the valve in question.

Many Thanks,
Mike.
