I bought this old Honda HR194 "Easy Start" mower. I think that "Easy Start" bit is a touch over the top.The base is shot and the wheels have lost their bearings so I need to get it off the old base and I am having trouble. I can get the blade off but there is this large holder underneath the blade. If I use a puller the metal bends. I've never seen this type of holder before so if any of you know a trick on how to get it off please let me know. The second photo is the holder that is causing me a headache.

Here is a way to do it.

Reinstall the center bolt most of the way in.
Install a old blade or heavier bar stock with matching blade mounting pattern leaving the bolts loose enough to get a two jaw under the edges of the blade. There are other type of pullers that you can mount directly in place of the two blade bolts. I have one here that works with my bearing separator that could be used.

Now apply pressure via the center jacking bolt of the puller until hub breaks free. You may a longer center bolt if the hub is really seized (and yours does appear quite rusty) to the crankshaft as provide more jacking room. You do want the center hub bolt threaded in most of the way as to prevent damage to the threading. In extreme cases you may even need some heating.

If the puller won't shift it, turn it upside down and wedge some hardwood between the blade holder and the frame. Unbolt the engine from the frame so that it is hanging by the blade holder. Suspend the frame upside down, put it between a couple of 44's maybe if you can't find a more suitable way. Put the centre bolt back in but leave it about 1 turn loose. Whack the head of the bolt with a big hammer! If that doesn't break the grip you may have to resort to a gas axe.

Could always resort to the .357 or .44 mag and it out your misery too. Just joking though I have felt like doing it a few times.

Oh well keep forgetting the rules are different over there. The anti gun people are trying to take ours away here too.

My brother had a boss that had beat his new push mower to death with 10# sledge hammer to only find out it was out gas. laugh

Yes, mowers can be frustrating at times
