Just got a lawn King after looking for a resto project for a while, plan is to paint it up to how it was from the factory. The mowers mechanicals are all original, clutch corks, gears, reel and all. Even the original spark plug and filter. Starts first pull Every time! There is still a little paint on the rear roller, is there a paint code or colour for it? It looks to be grey?

Hi Fossy, (well that's what Rebecca Maddern calls Sam Newman on the AFL Footy Show)

A big warm welcome to the ODK Forums :welcome:

There are quite a few variants of the Lawn King that was made by SB.

Can you take some photos and post them up and that way we can have a look and better advise you of what plan of attack you should take.

We all like to look at good photos, but without them makes it a tad hard.

At this point I'll have a stab and say you have a Pacific blue machine ?

Cheers
BB.

THANKS, YES ITS BLUE, AND IN GREAT ORIGINAL CONDITION, ALMOST TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE, THERE IS A LITTLE GREY PAINT LEFT ON THE BACK ROLLER, WOULD ANY COLOUR GREY DO? I WAS THINKING A 2 PACK FLAT GREY, OR COULD I MATCH THE ENGINE OR FRAME? ALL I HAD TO DO IS BACKLAP AND SERVICE AND IT CUTS PAPER ( AND GRASS)

Hello Fossy

Welcome to these forums from me too.

This is the Model 45 Lawn King - and the livery does
appear to be in fantastic condition. It must have had one
careful owner who stored the machine well.

Great photos for the record and a post to follow.
All the best with the resto.

I'm very happy with it, $150 well spent I think.

Hello Fossy,

Yes it's a Pacific Blue Model 45 that was manufactured in the earlier part of 1975 as the engine was made on the 6th of November 1974.

The blue is just a standard machinery Blue that's been used by many machinery manufacturers in the 1970's and 80's. Solver Paints here in South Australia called it Pacific Blue Hammertone. I still suspect that Solver were the paint supplier for all Scott Bonnar mowers built in the 1960's and 1970's, but I've yet to have solid evidence of this. I'm pretty sure that SB would've used a local supplier opposed to an interstate paint company, but we'll never know as all those type of company records were destroyed by Rover when they took over SB in 1980.

Your machine is in rather good order as is the catcher.

The grey is a pretty standard light grey and a 2 pack finish would be great, but remember that as soon as you use the mower that the high points on the roller will lose their paint instantly.

Just a small point on etiquette while writing on forums, please don't use "full capitalisation" as it means you are screaming at the other person. Some people really do get offended by this.

Cheers,
BB.
