Yes, these had reversible reels, so the other end will also
have a LH thread.

If you have the reel ground, the important thing is to fit the
reel to accommodate the direction the reel was sharpened.

This is just a stab but I would assume the other end would be R/H thread, could be wrong but that would be my guess

By engineering definition, the thread must be the same.
Reason: when you reverse the reel the driven-side remains the same.
[The sprocket is removed and placed on the other side].

The leading edge will be the higher side, with a relief angle going
to the backside face of the reel.

When you have a reel ground, the vast majority of sharpeners will
relief grind. You would need to specify a flat grind to get otherwise.

The reversible reel was an attempt to get extra life out of a reel
between grinds. As such it favours a flat grind.

I do not recommend reel reversal on any reel mower used for domestic
purposes. The better approach is seasonal back-lapping.

Success. Managed to get it apart after the excellent advice.

Now the reel and sole plate are submerged in molasses.

Anyone who has a spare reel drive sprocket, could you pm me?

You got me there Jack, I never thought about being able to reverse the reel

Just waiting on my lawn coming up to a respectable level and will get a video of her in action.

Hi all, I have been trying to remove the front drive shaft. I have removed the drive gear assembly and want to remove the reel drive sprocket. Problem is the drum wants to come with it. Obviously the drum transmits drive to the sprocket. I can't see any grub screws and I'm guessing it maybe splined?

The drum which is driven by the brake clutch shoes. In the parts list, Item number 158 is the drum, 147 is the shoes and 159 is the drive sprocket, which drives the chain, which drives the reel.

So the issue is removing the sprocket from the countershaft (not the reel).
The issue is, how is the sprocket (61) attached to the clutch drum (158)?

I will have to defer to a Mod or a member on that.

G'day folks,

I'd say #61 is the outer-mounted drive gear for the landroll clutch, and #159 is the reel drive sprocket here.

It makes sense for that drive gear to be keyed to the shaft, with one of the #62 woodruff keys.

As far as I can work this out, the reel clutch drum/sprocket assembly is free-running on the countershaft, located axially by the drive gear #61, and clutch backing plate #206 [which is also keyed to the countershaft], with thrust washers #160 and #161.

Pic #2 in post #70008 back on Page 1 has a reasonable detail view of the sprocket, if it's enlarged a bit. This confirms the large diameter centre hole in the sprocket, an indication that it is most likely screwed on. SB doesn't seem to have favoured splines.

As it happens, we do know the reel drive sprocket is screwed onto the hub extension of the clutch drum, from a past poster who found out the expensive way ; https://www.outdoorking-forum.com.au/forum/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=61229

I'd expect this to have a RH thread, i.e. the opposite to the driven sprocket on the reel.

Hopefully one of the past posters with hands-on experience of the Supercut teardown will chime in!

Thanks Gadge, I think you may be right. I have had a close look and there appears to be a thread. I have tried to turn it but it is tight. May have to get some heat into it.

Yes, Gadge (AKA Mr Spacely from the Jetsons) has the engineering background and the
skills to see this. I feel the advice on the RH thread is important here: because this
is a driving sprocket (rather than driven).

Finally got this to load.

ODK appreciates the efforts in presenting these pictures.
I feel technical information on Supercuts is lacking, and these
good photos help owners understand the machine.

A second person clasping the drum, as a quick mallet shock is
applied anti-clockwise to the sprocket may be all that is needed
to unlock the thread.
