Hey everyone I got this pope that needs a blade. It is a costly little number so I am putting it out there to see if anyone has swapped the blade with a disk off a Victa for example.I am hoping to cut down on blade costs in the future. As you see it has a little B&S on it.

You probably need to take the blade off and post a picture of the bare shaft. It might have a spline drive on it for the bar blade which would making fitting a normal disk difficult. An alternative might be making a bar with swing back blades fitted to the ends.

sourcing a second hand one is an option ? i think i have one or two here but postage would make it tough huh . or change the blade boss and try a rover plate . never seen one worn out that bad , those are a cheapy so normaly chucked out when they stop starting !

must work in a sandy place huh . but same shafts as any other briggs though , just remember to check blade hight undr the deck once its fitted . too low and it is ileagle wink too hight and it wont cut well . rest of the machine looks in good nick though .

those two plastic type washers fitted provide enough slip so it dont break the keyway and tight enough not to slip in use ...... no spline req'

The genuine boss on that setup has a spacer built in yo lower the blade. A rover setup wont work well as the blades will be sitting up in the pan too high. Go the victa setup or a GMC or Sanli if you have one.

I've got a dead GMC with a Chonda on it but I haven't looked underneath it yet. If it has the parts you need to convert yours I'd be happy to pull them off and send them down to you. I'll try to get around to checking it today and post some pics.

The GMC I have has a bar type blade that is still in good condition but I don't know if is what you are after. Let me know if you are interested.

Should of checked here before I tried the Rover boss and blades would of saved myself an hour. The rover set up does sit up higher by about 10mm so dont try this at home kids.Victa I got a few of and Sanli I got a couple of.

Looking at it Aussietrev the shaft looks a bit shorter. Thanks for making the effort to take the pic though.I was going to take a pic of the Pope boss but you cant really make out the issue. The bottom of the boss were it sits against the shaft is about 12mm thick which will make it a bit tricky I guess.

The boss is 50mm from top to blade. Thing is, if the boss sits against the bottom of the shaft, the length of the boss shouldn't matter, should it? The blade on the GMC is about 3mm thick steel, very heavy duty and I reckon on a standard lawn you would get many years out of it. Here is the boss off the shaft. Shaft diameter is 22mm. Looks to be about 20mm thick inside meaning it would sit on the bottom of whatever shaft it was on so height of the blade would be the same as current one.

I tried the carrier and boss off a Sanli which I think it is a Chonda (not had alot to do with them)which sits the blades at the right height. The hole is smaller that bolts the carrier to the shaft but could be drilled out I guess. But The engine doesnt seem centred on chassis which means the blades are very close to scraping on one side of the chassis of the Pope.4 of these blades dont work out a hole lot cheaper than the original.Hmmm Might try and see what Victa has to offer.

Yep I see what you mean aussietrev. I dont think I got a blade and boss like that GMC I think I did have one but the boss I had was alloy and previouse owner hit something hard and turned into a two piece part.Decent enough blade but, not bad for a push mower.Postage woud be a bit of a killjoy to get yours here. confused

Yep, that's the same Chonda clone that is on the GMC I have here. If you want this bar blade and boss you only need pay for postage, I don't want anything for the bits. The blade looks almost new, apart from being rusty, with no nicks out of the cutting edges. If it turns out your Pope chassis does have the motor offset then it will be easier to shorten off a bar blade a little each end with an angle grinder than mucking about with small blades. This blade is 455mm overall and 55mm wide and is very much like a ride on mower blade.

I have tried a Victa boss with a mulching disk on it and it drops the blades down to toe cutter height and I have grown fond of my toes so that is that one out. I have pretty much drained my resourses here so if your offer is still open aussietrev I might grab your blade set up as long as they dont want my arm and leg for postage(I am fond on them as well).

Looks like postage works out around $12. If you want to go ahead with it send me a PM with your details.
