What a haul, those MTD mowers are a cheap, nasty and disposable machine. The slasher is quite a rocket :-)

yes dave i will. the motor runs great. bit of a fuel leak. one of the bolt heads has been broken off ![[Linked Image]](https://www.outdoorking-forum.com.au/forum/uploads/usergals/2016/04/full-9141-28115-dscf7116.jpg) it is running in the pics i am thinking that the fuel leak is because the spring under the needle needs to be retensioned(stretched abit if you will). ![[Linked Image]](https://www.outdoorking-forum.com.au/forum/uploads/usergals/2016/04/full-9141-28118-dscf7118.jpg) there is no fuel leaking when running. MTDs for sale are there any ohns issues with this machine??? HAHAHAH sean

i just used the heavy cut to cut my lawn for about 10 mins. the pulley on the front got rather hot ![[Linked Image]](https://www.outdoorking-forum.com.au/forum/uploads/usergals/2016/04/full-9141-28121-dscf7121.jpg) ???? the arrow is going the wrong way. ![[Linked Image]](https://www.outdoorking-forum.com.au/forum/uploads/usergals/2016/04/full-9141-28122-dscf7120.jpg) this is the only part that is hot. i used it in 2nd gear and reverse. 2nd is fast enough. cant wait to try out 5th. i can only imagine that i havent tensioned up the belt correctly and it is slipping, but it drives as it should sean

What is the top bearing like Sean? I'm not so sure it is for cutting lawns, I think it is for cutting grass or anything else that gets in the way

Yep, it isn't a lawn mower, but a heavy duty slasher meant for knocking down rough stuff. Very long grass, bracken, blackberries, weeds, reeds etc.
Don't worry about the arrow on the pulley - it's just a carryover from the early models, which had horizontal shaft engines and had to use that direction of rotation, along with left hand threads on the cutter spindle.
Cheers, Gadge

thanks for the tips fellas. i did use the old screwdriver stethoscope trick on the bottom and top, they both sounded the same. like they needed grease. there is no grease nipple anywhere. the only part that got hot was the pully.so i am thinking belt slippage??? thank goodness i had steelcaps on is all i have to say. sean
