Hi

I while ago I bought this ride on 2nd had and have since had the carby tuned, replaced the cutting deck belt, first drive belt and the blades....

Yesterday was going well, ploughing through some pretty tough stuff and today it would not start! I left it for a while with the battery charger on to top it back up and then it started. drove it for about 7-8min, stopped put to idle while I opened a gate, it stalled and that's it. Can't get it going again.

I am not a motor mechanic bough was hoping someone could offer some pointers on what to look at.

Also not sure if this fuel tap is standard but seems to leak a bit, I assume the local mower shop could supply one so I can replace it.

Also there is a black wire connected near the throttle control, the other end comes out down the spark plug end of the engine but is not connected to anything....

Photos of the beast are here

Any help much appreciated, what a great forum!

Thanks
Nathan

Hi This is my second attempt at a reply. Check all of the cutout switches. .Under the seat...........Cuttredrive engament ......and Brake pedal Sometimes they stick closed and can be a nuisance in general especially the seat . Cheers Joe

the seat switch has been disconnected by the previous owner but I will have a look at the others and get the multi meter on them to check.

the motor turns over when I try to start it, would that happen if it was one of the switches? I would have thought the starter motor would not engage at all...

thanks

And yes, I made a typo in the title, should be Rancher not Ranger :-)

Nathan_O,

If the Blade engage switch is faulty the motor will turn over but you will have no spark and engine will not start.

1. I would check to see if you have spark when the motor is turning over.

2. If no spark then it could be one of the micro switches faulty.

Some of the switches you can over ride by using a split pin just to test.

Let us know how you go. cheers2

I think all the switches have been disabled as I have started it with the blade engaged previously......

the next day, after I let the mower spend the night out in the paddock, it started... I think it could be a fuel/flooding issue, where the fuel tap connects to the carby bit it is not screwed in tight...

I was on it again this afternoon and then the chain came off and it appears as though the two cogs are not in alignment so something has shifted. Off to the mower shop tomorrow.

Starting to wonder if a 2nd hand mower was such a good idea.. If only I knew more about mechanics and small engines..

thanks for your ideas so far, I know have some jumper leads for it so I can start from the car battery when the mower battery dies after repeated attempts.. :-)

Nathan
