I recently managed to pick up a Rover Super Four 53 with the 5hp B&S motor.
Can anybody tell me where I can obtain a set of drive dogs to suit?

Recycling and Repairs
I know this is an old Post, but am surprised that nobody has yet provided an answer.
Having hunted around the internet for these myself, the only thing I have found is that there have been a few of these machines restored by ODK members, but none of the members have replaced this part of the posi-traction drive mechanism. I can't even find a manual or part number for this animal.
Some people call these a drive cog, others call them a drive dog.
I now have someone looking for a replacement set for his Super Four-53 and he has explained they are replaceable and have a left and right hand thread.
Maybe the short answer is to have them rebuilt using a welder and grinder.
Photos on this link wouldn't work when I was just looking, but is the closest I may get to an answer:-

The Rover part numbers are AO 2400 and AO 2401 for right and left hand respectively, the kit is P/No AO 2400 /1K. Rover called them 'drive dogs'.
Sadly long unavailable, even the aftermarket versions.

Some NOS ones do come up on FleaBay, but usually only one side... Let's see if this repost of a missing pic from the other thread works:

That de-registered member's mobile number is still in his profile, if you can see that.

Thank you Gadge,
That's the information I was looking for, and the missing photo from the link worked here, so that's a strange one, but I'm glad I can now see it.
I had found someone selling the Left Drive Dog where it showed the part number as AO2401, but I was at a loss for the part number of the Right Drive Dog.
I suggested to the guy looking for a replacement set that "maybe having your worn ones rebuilt by a good welder, may be your best option. That is, build up a weld along the drive dog ridges and machine lathe back to equal height (if necessary)".
As these Dogs operate by pressure onto rear wheels, it seemed to be the best alternative solution that I could think of.
Appreciate your assistance. Well done.
Have a great day.

De nada, Bushy.

Both the dogs and the rear wheels were 'wear parts' in that drive system; it was pretty crude, really.

The major aftermarket OPE spares suppliers still listed these dogs until at least 2010; Bynorm as P/No. 049-004 and GA Spares as P/No. WWP1087 - both for the pair.

Cheers,
Gadge

Thank you Gadge.
I passed on the part numbers for the Drive Dogs and gave him dodegys mobile. I hope that isn't a breach of the Forum rules but, as there had been no replies requesting parts on his post, he may still have some in stock to help the guy out. He was totally stoked that I even found Genuine Drive Dogs for the Left-hand side on eBay for him.
Pity nobody has these, although, in reality, Cost of holding Vs Supply would not warrant a normal business. :-(
Appreciate your additional information for the aftermarket Part Numbers from Bynorm & GAS, but search result was NIL.

No worries Bushy,
That's the only way of getting in touch with dodegy, now that he's left ODK.

The aftermarket P/Nos were really only for completeness; in case anyone ever finds a set and wonders what they fit. This way a Google will find that info, once their spiders have picked it up.

These mowers are getting a bit elderly [early 1980's for the last of them], so no longer worth anyone's while to stock parts. Much the same as older Victas - rubber snorkels and G3 carby bits have disappeared from the catalogues, in the past few years.

Cheers,

Thank you Gadge,
By you adding the part numbers to allow an Internet (Google) Search to pick up this Post is another reason why I was wanting to get the information completed, apart from needing help for my own search.
By using the term Super Four Drive Dog and Super Four Drive Cog also helps in the gaining search results to get to this Post and find your information.
