I have a mower with a Briggs & Stratton 450 series motor that has some crank play. It's not side to side but up & down, it's roughly around 1mm maybe a little less.
Is this an issue or is it normal. What is the cause for this and is it fixable?
its fairly normal yes , its contoled sometimes by a shim .... which is a tear down or sump off . and also different thickness of base/crankcase gaskets . so if its not causing you a problem then less that 1mm isnt a worry .
Ok thanks for that, good to hear that it is fairly normal. I will have a closer look at the condition of the overall engine before I do a tear down, from memory it smoked a little bit as well.
