Hi Norm,

yes not a bad idea. Wait for a special at Repco or SCA, you may get it cheaper?

If you already have a battery charger (and pump and torch, etc), what about a cheap 12Ah SLA or motorcycle battery or even car battery? Usually a 7Ah SLA inside those starter packs (if not smaller) anyway. Just an idea...

Also having seemingly rubbished the jumpstarter which I actually own, It's actually convenient, useful, well built, just about fits in a large pocket, has a torch, double as a large mobile phone battery/recharger- same as Officeworks "power banks", USB output incl a higher (2.1A) port. But it won't pump up your tyres0- I hope that doesn't leave you...a little deflated? grin

Cheers,

Patrick

Thanks Patrick. The AGM motorcycle batteries work well and crank the 11 HP B&S easily but they do require a motorcycle specific charger. By the time I bought a battery and a charger, that would cost more than the jumper pack, so I think the jumper pack is a win win because it can also be used to start other equipment as well

Moving on from this one to an 11hp in a Greenfield I fixed up for a mate last year, this motor is a bit smokey and I wonder if these are really worth re-ringing or not? Rebore and new piston is out of the question cost wise. For not much more than that I can put a brand new motor on it. I'm always suspicious of these Briggs because they can put a led out of bed so easily, and would be pretty annoyed with myself if this were to happen after a rebore. Apart from that the motor runs well with no odd sounds but is going through a bit of oil
