Hello ODK History Lovers

It is not true that store brand lawnmowers are a recent event in
lawnmower history. The Americans probably started the practice in the late
19th Century, and it was very common for merchants the larger retailers
to have lawnmowers made by manufacturers for them and branded with their
business name or name of choice.

The Saint George push mower was such a machine. Manufactured by an unknown
maker, it was the brand the great Sydney Department Store Murdoch's Limited
chose for their mower. It was sold from their landmark building located at
the corner of Park & George Streets, Sydney.

The first advertising records I have start from March, 1930.

Of course the founding of Murdochs is a great story in itself.

PART TWO - Specification

The St George was a five-bladed 12 inch side wheel of conventional design.
The half dozen records I have span from 1930 to 1934, and I think that would
be a fair indicator of the mowers production span.

This Saint George was restored by Member Alwil.
It is the only one known to survive at this time.
