This mower will not hold a catcher and the spring is not providing any real tension. I have changed springs on victas before where you just punch the rod out and simply change the spring. I can't see how you do this on this particular mower. For a start the handle brackets are in the way of what looks like the rod that carries the spring. Not even sure if the spring has just come loose or the spring actually needs to be replaced. 2nd photo is with catcher flap up. [Linked Image]

The spring has no real influence on the catcher staying on, unlike the steel based models. You will need to tweak the latch on the inside of the catcher in order for it to stay locked on.

Thanks Ted, by the way is this one of the newer powertorques? I have a standard catcher that works with the spring tensioned system, does the mower pictured require a special catcher?

hi tiger
how's my old mower going , no trouble I hope, teds right the catch on the catcher is what holds it on ,some times the latch on the catcher becomes bent over time and the catcher will keep falling off, bending it back to shape will fix this.
when I gave you the mower I kept the catcher as I needed it for another mower , see first picture.
I have a catcher that will fit off a silver streak, it has some cracks on the top, but would be easy to repair with some aluminium sheet pop riveted to the inside.
you can have it if you want it just pm me

Hi Damo,

Mower is fine but it really needs a catcher, I've tried using the standard powertorque catcher and that just falls off, now I know why. If you can spare your catcher I'll take it, is it only cracked at the top? Do you want me to come and pick it up? Thanks.

hi tiger
will be going by your joint tomorrow will drop it off and leave it near your garage if your not home, I fix up cracks in catchers with some aluminium sheet, round 1mm thick shaped to the inside of the catcher so it coverers the crack with plenty of over hang for more support, drill at least half a dozen holes and rivet. once I have done that I spray paint the repair on the out side with some flat black paint , this covers the rivets and blends in the repair so it looks hard to pick. yes only cracked on top , repair first before use or the crack may get larger.

G'day Damo, I'll be home late afternoon If that helps, otherwise even behind the front fence will be ok.
