Hello ODK Collectors

This is one I am happy to have. It's a 20-Year Service Tie Pin and Tie Clip,
given to employee P.E. Jenkins on 22nd May, 1967.

These pins were still on their original cardboard backing and in very good
condition; suggesting that the recipient never wore them too much.

The Tie Clip is in gold plate with black enameling; the Pin in gold plate
with green enameling. Both have the company's logo of the flag top, saying
Turner Industries (21mm x 9mm). One was made by Stokes; One by Hickok.
I guess these were recognized jewelers of the day.

Turner Industries was an engineering and manufacturing company based in
Lilydale, Melbourne, most famous for their Rotary Lawn Mowers, produced
from around 1959 - 1970. They were one of the top half-dozen makers in the
sixties: Victa, Turner, Pope, Rover, Supa-Swift and Scott Bonnar.

The company was bought by tool manufacturers Stanley-Titan in 1970.

The rest is history.

They are nice pieces Jack, I was looking at them on EBay and thought you might take a shine to them :-)

Hi stev and Paul

Yes, I took a shine.

I guess I want to give more prominence to Turner.
This was an old company that ventured into lawnmowers for such a
short time. It's what they did in that short time that is more
impressive: their attitude to safety is paramount, but their design
flair in high-arch discharge, and use of plastics is more impressive.

They have been neglected by collectors until recent times.
As the slogan goes ...

Is there a Turner in your home?

Jack's a patient individual - I alerted him to this set when it first came up on Fleabay back in October.
But the price was a bit over the top then, as I recall. grin

Not sure about Hickok, but Stokes are badge manufacturers, rather than jewellers.
Still very much in business, too - http://www.stokesbadges.com.au/index.php

I probably have a bigger collection of metal badges than most people, and some of them were made by Stokes.
I was very much into going to motorcycle rallies for 20 or so years, and it's usual for a commemorative badge to be made and sold to attendees at these events.

Cheers,
Gadge
