I have aquired a tired 8/30 as a bit of a project (possibly 50 bucks wasted) which starts, although when it started my ankles were sprayed with oil, but forward and reverse will not engage. The rod to energise this function enters what I take to be the gearbox but appears to be frozen ie it does not move in or out very much. Is there anybody watching who can help me out with the best way to start this project? I have expertise and equipment but just need a nudge. There is no data plate under the seat (or elsewhere on the frame) that I can see but the B&S engine has the following: Model 190707, Type 2159 01, Code 84100309. I see a lot of expertise on this forum and look forward to members' input.

Update: I have found a data plate on the transom (under some muck) showing 'Made in USA' and numbers 134 504 612 L064A. Just need to decipher the numbers if someone can help please.

Hello bobk

The engine code says the engine was made in late 1984, making this a 1985 model.
Victa, of course, have never really 'made' a ride-on. I believe this is an
American MTD.

A good 35 page Manual is available here:-

Hope this helps.

Hello bobk

Your welcome. Let us know how you go.
You have given us some good photos for the record.

I can't say I know anything about this model, but I
love the French baguette roll carrier at the front.

All the best.
