SENIOR TECHNICIAN
Patrick, always staggering how cost run away so quickly, in particular once you start painting. 2pak clear costs me about $80 for a liter but it does go a long way and does a great job.
And Patrick I am reminded every day I wake up as to how old I am, many broken bones from motorcycle accidents over the years begin to take their toll. Problem is the mind keeps telling me that I can still do all the work I could years ago but the body won't allow me to do it

Hi Norm,

a belated thanks again for the info and assistance. It's all good now and a couple of weeks has allowed some of the painted bits to 'toughen up'.

I'll keep in mind about 2pak next time. But that will mean purchasing spray equipment.

So my next two experiments (when I get around to them) will likely be paint stripping and spray painting. I'll be sure to have more questions then.

That apparent ~$120 runaway paint can cost actually means approx 5 undercoaters (metal, etch, zinc gal, plastic and general white), 2 top coaters (hammertone blue, 'chrome') and a fish oil. Not too shabby given I have plentiful supply left of each can. I figure on a generous $30 of paint used.

Given a $5 toy that worked and now looks and works better, the value for me is all in the (learning) experience.

Here's a final few photos of the parts after painting, you can see a few hard-to-get-at crevices.

Blue Hammertone painted parts.

Silver 'chrome' painted parts. It does just look like silver paint.

Some of the nuts/bolts post-painting, with the 4 main spray cans used.

Many thanks again to all!
