Hello sb30inch

A warm welcome to these forums.

It is not common, and a real treat, to have a greenkeeper on board.
What we often miss here is that professional-user view about issues.

That you still have five SBs in use is a credit to SB and their designs.
Any photos, anecdotes, or information is always welcome here.

Welcome aboard.

Hi sb30inch,

I also welcome you wholeheartedly and totally concur with what Jack has written.

Greenkeepers are certainly hard to find and especially ones that are prepared to share their knowledge.

I'm sure you'll most certainly be asked lots of questions by not just mower restorers, but lawn fanatics like myself and quite a few others here on this site.

The Scott Bonnar enthusiasts are always looking for perfection in their lawns and you'll find they are all a rather friendly lot here at the ODK.

Once again a huge warm :welcome:

Cheers,
BB

PS. with a bit of luck and if you're prepared to hang around long enough we could easily make a whole sub forum section for you to look after if you wanted that lol

Hi sb30inch,

I gather you are using "Queens" as your tool of choice ? There are still so many of these being used in Bowling clubs all over Australia, but 5 of them in various guises is quite a few I must say.

I'd love to see a photo of all five lined up together.

On behalf of the ODK I must thank you for your willingness to answer lawn building and maintaining questions as it goes hand in hand with mowing equipment. I'm almost certain your services will be well appreciated here.

Cheers,
BB

Here are some pics of my work mowers. The maroon mower is not strictly a queen but is made of queen parts with a hydraulic gearbox/drive.The 14" without the engine is the Tecumseh I am currently overhauling.Hi cyberjack,I notice you are the forum historian.I will pm you regarding some Scott bonnar documentation I have from the early 1960's.Regards Ian

Hi Ian,

That's a mighty fine lot of Pro Scotty's you have there.

You just can't beat the Queens for that superb finish, but as most of us know it's not all just about the mower in surface maintenance is it ? It's amazing how many folk think that you can turn a rubble pile into a bowling green simply by using a Reel Mower, wrong !

What do you use the Petrol driven Model 65 for ? as that looks to have been used sparingly ? and I gather the 2 model 45's are merely for home use ?

Cheers,
BB

The 65 and the two 45's are used to maintain the surrounds of the bowling green. The 14" is being converted to take a dethatching reel. The 65 is basically not in use as it was too heavy and awkward to get around obstacles.I find the 45's a lot easier to use.No cylinder mowing at home,I use a victa.Cheers Ian

Hi Ian,

Keep us up to speed with the 14 inch dethatcher as I want to build one up as well.

Cheers,
BB
