Today i acquired a 4 hp easy spin motor which has never been used. It has never had oil or petrol in it. The choke is stuck but will probably move once i spray it with carby cleaner. I paid $80 for it. The airfilter is missing but the carby opening has been tapped. There is surface rust inside the petrol tank. It is in good nick. The code appears to be 7091304 so l believe it was built 13th july 1970. The other numbers are 00232 0556 01. Numbers are hard to read as there is surface rust. I have never seen a yellow motor before , has the colour got something to do with hp size or equipment use. Any tips on how to prepare this motor before i fire it up. It is going on a rover cylinder mower.

Hello bellarinelawns

Well that's pretty amazing.
For the record, we would love to see some photos of it.

It can't be a 00232, but I'm thinking it is probably a 100232...?
Yellow engines were brought in to AUS. For example, Rover used yellow
engines on their edgers and mowers (Baron)at one point.

Air cleaner - you have a choice:-

A brand new engine for $80 seems quite good.
The carby diaphragm will probably need replacing...?

Hope this helps.

The serial numbers which are located on the cover plate have slight rust. When i remove it i will rub it back further to get a better view of the numbers. Only the air filter cannnister is missing. The screw is still there. As soon as i workout how to post photos i will post some photos. The motor also came withthe original manufacturers tag advising to fill with oil etc.

Hello ballarine lawns

Yep, looks like a 10 series engine to me.
Thank you for the great photos.

Here's another example of NOS Briggs engines:

Ran a partial number search here base on the 00232-0556-01 and it is a 100232-0556-99 and date code 70091304 indicate a 1970 unit but a digit is missing from it possibly a zero which make it September 13 manufactured date. Note: older Briggs are all now grouped under the -99 trim code.
