I'm restoring a Model 5 Victa. I cannot see any obvious means to stop the engine whenever required.

Am I missing something, or is my Model 5 missing something??!!

What is the official way to stop these mowers?

With my thanks

nova,

The old victa metal type carby (3F,3L,3Q & 3S) should stop when you reduce the throttle down to minimum. If it does not then you need to look at the settings for the carby.

Detailed information on the settings for the carby are in the parts list and manuals area of the forum. cheers2

Thanks Bruce.

According to the model data, my Model 5 mower has a 3F carb. However, I cannot locate any information about adjusting the throttle cable in the 3F/3L carburettor manual.

Q1. Is the idea to adjust the cable such that the mower just stops when the throttle lever is set to the fully low-speed end of its travel?

Q2. Does this mean the throttle should be at a particular setting when starting the mower?

Q3. Is the cold start throttle setting the same as the hot start setting?

A general question:

Q4. Do you close the air filter "choke", ie rotate the air filter end cap to the "choked" position for cold starts only, or for hot and cold starts?

Thanks

Nova,

1. Adjust the cable so that when you move the throttle control to minimum rev's that the engine stop's.

2. Throttle control should be around half way.

3. Cold start you should be using the choke as when the mower is hot it is not required to have choke on.

Hope that this is of some help.cheers2

Thanks 3turncarby.

The fuel tap is the small push-off, pull-on type, barrel-type, fitted directly to the bottom of the tank. The moving part of the fuel tap moves horizontally rearwards, in and out of the main body.

If the o-rings have worn, does that mean the tap won't shutoff properly, or does it mean the fuel flow will be restricted when running?

(Not sure of the effect of the worn o-rings...)
