Hello,

Sorry if I've posted this in the wrong section, please move to most appropriate place if wrong.

3 pics below...
Just out of interest, does somebody have the knowledge to identify the engine on this Victa Mustang from around 1994 (it could be from a couple of years before 1994, but I'm pretty sure not after).

Can someone identify the engine and specs?, I'm particularly interested to know how the cutting power (torque) would compare to todays Briggs and Stratton 625EX 150cc OHV (8.5Nm) as seen here:
http://www.briggsandstratton.com/us/en/engines/push-mower-engines/625ex-series
I attached a power chart taken from the Briggs and Stratton website.

Thanks in advance for any help.

It is in fact a Victa power-torque engine and it is a 160cc engine.Should be the Australian made engine, not the Chinese made engine.
If you really wanted to know the date of manufacture you need to pull the carby off and the intake manifold and there will be a date stamp on the engine block.
Sorry I don't have any kind of graph to compare it with a 4 stroke (and there will,or could be arguments over which is better),but it comes down to personal choice, but that's for another day.

Here for a good time, not a long time.

Thanks for the info...
I don't know much about engines at all, so I'm not looking for very technical info, just a basic comparison of torque (cutting power), for example the B&S 625EX is 8.5Nm torque, what would the Nm torque be for the Power Torque? (I know each may peak at different RPM levels, and some people will prefer 2 stroke to 4 stroke, flathead to OHV etc.), but I'm basically just looking for a simple comparison of the cutting power of my old lawnmower compared to new lawnmower, is there a rough guess you can give for the Power Torques Nm torque? (even though it may be at different RPM) - I thought these Power Torque engines were pretty common, and presumed this stuff would be known.
I would presume that the B&S 625EX 150cc would be no less powerful than the Power Torque in patches of 2 inch grass?

It's a later 'Chinese' 160cc powertorque, look at the cooling fins.

Victa list the newest ve40/ve50/vex60 2 stroke engines at 7.8/8/8.5nm respectively. The thing to remember though for example i have a honda gcv135 its quoted as 4.5hp, however this is achieved at 3600rpm not the governed 3150rpm where it 'only' makes 4hp. They also quote it's torque at 9.7nm which is obviously measured differently to other manufacturers. To put it in perspective though my 1988 powertorque 2 stroke will mulch through thick buffalo grass with no problems where as even my 190cc briggs 625 will bog so low it'll almost stall. As they say the victa 2 stroke is a purpose built mower engine, its the only one in the world that actually accelerates under load.

At a guess your vs160 would be around 4hp 7.5nm when new. Your briggs 625 is a whole lot more powerful but your not comparing apples to apples, the victas perform well above their output, in the real world. I have no experience with newer ohv briggs you'll have to report back with a comparison of the two.
