Hey guys,

I have sitting here a B&S 650 I/C engine, but I'm in need of a blade and base, though I'm not sure on the requirements are for it. (I've googled around, but have yet to come across the info I seek.)

For the blade-boss, I've slipped one on from an old mower (had a b&s 350) and it seemed to fit quite well, then screwed the boss bolt into the shaft.

Does anyone know what size mower base is required to mount this engine, and know what size blade that can be used (I guess that depends on the base?)

Any suggestions would be super.

Thanks in advance smile

Guess you could compare the mounting bolt spacing to the old 350. If it ends up that it will fir a Rover base, I have a few good ones sitting around, both alloy and steel. The steel one currently has a Quantum sitting on it.

Hi, it is a standard bolt pattern so will fit on basically any base out there, most B&S motors have the most common shaft length so a standard blade boss and blade carrier will fit. The width of cut and blade plate/ blades is dependent on the mower base. The 190cc should handle a 22inch cut with power to spare to drive the self propulsion mechanism if the base has fitted. This is the standard engine on the 22inch self propelled Rover base

Where abouts are you Widget? Make it easier for someone to help you out with a base and blade boss if they know you are close. Alternatively, go to the local tip shop and see if there are any old Rovers there with a good blade plate and chassis. Probably only cost you five or ten dollars.

Thanks guys :), thought it may need a larger base.. but I have a spare one here, ill compare the mounting holes to the holes on the engine itself smile

Sorry Aussitrev, im in NSW (Hawkesbury). Unfortunately the only tip I know that sells scrap parts is in Illawarra (2hrs south). I've got a spare blade boss/blade and base Ill see how that goes and report back smile

Thanks again smile

That engine will fit any mower base out there providing the base isn't a relic. Check the length of the shaft from the sump (make sure your measuring from sump and not bottom seal) Victa use a shorter shaft but you can get a spacer ring that will lift the engine if you desperately want a victa base. Just go to your local mower shop and get a second hand base I'd personally recommend an old Rover alloy base or Masport Mulcher if you can find a decent one!
