Bought this Old Hurricane engine recently and thinking of doing a restoration. Just wondering would this engine have originally come from a lawn mower? Would anyone know anything about this type of engine and when it may have been made?

The simple answer is ... probably, but not necessarily.
I would date this engine from late 1950s to mid 1960s.

Hurricane were lawnmower manufacturers in their own right from the early 1960s.
Originally (1950s) they were engine manufacturers to Australian lawnmower OEMs -
Amplion, Atom Mofast, Colda, Collect-O-Matic, Crowe, Precision, Pye-Tecnico, and more.

This engine could have been originally applied to vertical or horizontal shaft
applications (not necessarily lawnmowers) . With no provenance, we simply don't know.
