Hello all, long time between drinks! I've just started restoring a Scott Bonnar Supercut which I'm building out of a couple of machines. Just wondering if anyone's got any tips for replicating that plastic finish they put on the top part of the handlebars/controls?

Keep on truckin'

Hello Mark x11

I wish I knew the answer to that.
I wonder whether the coating was dipped, or shrunk on?
I guess it's a sort of heavy duty heat shrink material like:

Hopefully, a member might shed light, and suggest something.

Hope this helps.

Cheers For the reply Jack.
You would think it's some type of heat shrink wrapping wouldn't you?
I'm just amazed at its longevity......I don't think the shrink wrap stuff I've got in the shed will cut it for fifty years plus.......heheh

Hello Mark_x11

Yeah, it was built to last.
Am I correct in saying that it feels more like plastic than rubber?
The reason that I ask this is because I also wonder whether it held insulating
properties for the electric models...?

I also note that it was not offered as a spare part separate from the handle:-

So what was it? How did they do it? Can it be replicated?
The answer must be out there. Someone must know... shocked

p.s. Any restoration photos would be welcome. We don't have any good detail
shots of the components - clutch ... trans. ... roller assembly ... &c.

Cheers.
