Hoping someone could help with my 50's Victa Special 3F carburettor problem. Fuel leaks out of the tickler and vent hole. Would anyone know what could be causing this problem and how to fix it? Thanks in advance to anyone who can help.

I've no idea what is inside a 3F carby but in a normal carby I would be looking at needle and seat or float level.

Float level incorrectly set/too high....Or faulty needle and or seat.

Check the needle is seating, and not worn around the tip. It should have a nice pointed tip with no grooves around the taper...like a newly sharpened pencil.

*First Measure the float gap as per specs, So you can bend the arms the required way, to achieve the correct level.

Float adjustment is done by gently bending the float lever arms equally, slightly away from the carby body to achieve the correct specs below.

Place a finger on the arm directly over the needle to hold the float lever firmly. Gently bend each arm upward slightly to the same height. Refit the float and remeasure.

Age, wear, vibration and worn tickler guides can also cause fuel to seep out excessively when running.

Thanks for your replys and help. I took the needle out of the carby and it seems to have ridges worn to the top of it. I suppose this could be contributing to the fuel leaking problem. I have another needle from a spare carby which looks much better so I will try this one. Also the float lever seems to be much higher than 3/16" so will adjust this as well. I also have a Villiers carby which has the same connections as the original Victa Special carby and of similar age. If all else fails I wonder if I should try this carby on it?
Bought this mower just recently and was hoping to get it going. I have 3 of these mowers now, one of which is a runner (but not very well). The other one has a seized engine and is currently in pieces. Hope to do some restorations on these in the future.
Cheers and once again thanks for your help!
