I wonder if someone can help me with a photo of an actual G2 carbie with its original vane in place? I'm trying to reconstruct the governor on this one, which had been removed and bypassed with a wire link. I've managed to find a 3mm shaft and some gears off a G3 which work, and I've made a vane out of a bit of square tin, but never having clapped eyes on an original version, I don't really know what the vane is supposed to look like. The best reference I can find is a diagramme in the manual which is not very clear. Is it curved or pennant shaped? Or both? It's hard to tell. Any advice would be most welcome. The governor spring is out of a Sanyo tape player. Are they rare, these carbies? I've encountered lots of G3s and G4 types, but never seen one of these before.

The diagram in the Victa 'Green Book' IPL is a bit clearer.

Pic credit to member Blumbly, in THIS past thread.

Yep, it is a 'pennant' shape, and also has a 'wave' form, though that is difficult to see. Also, it's made of steel.

Easily the rarest of all the Victa carbies, and many were replaced in service by G3's.

Gadge

Thanks Gadge, that picture is a lot clearer than the grease smudged photocopy I'm looking at. It makes sense too, given the shape of the baffling inside under the cowl. I did a bit of a 'road test' earlier, and I reckon I'll have to cut the vane down a fair bit. Or possibly get a stronger spring. It's okay at idle, but 'hunts' badly when the revs are brought up. I'll work on it some more....

Good luck with your nature strip/tip shop searches on that!
You'll need it. grin

These were fitted in Victa's 1968-69 model year for sure, and possibly some way into MY1969-70.

Gadge

Excellent. The newly re-commissioned governor works so well, I've had to add a missile switch to shut her down. Thanks again to all for your advice. smile

Jon, see my post on your other thread, re adding pics as uploads.

Apologies, but in an attempt to 'localise' the pic in your first post above, I've lost it! Oops. blush

And your 'missile switch' duplicates the original G2 cutout switch - this was incorporated in the throttle control, with a wire running to it, parallel to the throttle cable.

Cheers,
Gadge
