1930's , has the 'Deluxe extras " , selling points of rubber tyres , roller bearings , self sharpening , self adjusting .

In the 1938 advert it states that , quote , "These machines have been used for some years by the Melbourne City Council and other municipal councils , one council uses about 90 machines "

Note the detail in the handle joint .

I just can't imagine how the tyres, and the wood, look so perfect after all this time. Are those rubber tyres? They look like it.

I can see the remaining red paint on the reel before you restored it, so I won't ask if the colour is original. A beautiful piece of work, alwil.

Beautiful work Al, I've got a pushie here ready to get that treatment to, however it certainly is not the "Deluxe" model as yours is, I Love those rubber wheels!

Cheers
Ty

Another awesome job Alwil! You must have one rather large collection, and you seem to do them quick too. Magic!

Hi Al, you've done it again! What a ripper....and I think having copies of the original adverts is just great Al....I agree with grumpy...the condition of the woodwork (and the detail of the handle joint) is amazing. It must have been well looked after and garaged after use...and, of course, to have the original rubber tyres intact after 63 years is fabulous!
Just brilliant Al, as usual!

Hi,
Just thought I'd share my little weekend resto project. We found this under our old house, and it was dusty and rusty. Having seen how sturdy this is, I'm sure it'll be mowing in 100 years! Does anyone know if this model came with the rubber tread? I don't suppose you can get that anywhere.

Cheers,
Justin.

Hello jlowe1973

A warm welcome to these forums!
I am very pleased that you have chosen to restore your Rexmow.
These are import - but forgotten - lawnmowers of a unique Australian design.

Your machine is a post WWII machine that would date from between 1948 to the mid 1950s.
Because this machine has the newer tubular handle, I feel it would date from about 1952.

To answer your question, these machines - with the tubular handles - would have only come
with the rubber tyres. They were bonded to the steel wheels. No parts are available.

Here is a picture of a bonded rubber tyred wheel:-

A History Record is available for the Rexmow HERE.

Hope this helps.

THIS mob offer re-rubbering of wheels for their own products [the Mobilco-legacy Heavycut slashers].

It might be worth contacting them, to see if they get this done outside, rather than in-house. If so, they might be willing to point you in the right direction.
