Hi all
I inherited this little Victa from the father-in-law.
Looking at the reference documents on this site, I think it is 1964 Victa Stencil Mayfair. However it has a pull starter and not the crank.
It is perhaps the an older engine was put on the Stencil and the original cowling and fuel tank was used?
Anyway after over 20 years of this thing be abused by the elements, I stripped it down and cleaned it up. Now she runs first pull.
Any assistance is appreciated.

Hi Mate,

It does appear to be an early mayfair base, Im unfamiliar with its handle setup. At first glance it looks like a dep store variant. Msaa colouring and seemingly later than 64.

So, 64 appears a little early, but the metal catcher if correct would put it fairly close. Hopefully some of the 60S/70S Experts will chime in with more accurate model details

You next question, is much more straight forward for me to answer....Your Guess on the engine is close.

The complete engine and cowl assy is Definitely off a 61/2 Sheerline 9 or Standard. The Engine code of 2 DAB is a period correct Sheerline Serial.

However the same engine and cowl style was used on some Mayfair in later models, so its current engine may at least be aesthetically correct, with exception of the starter pulley.

Hello Ugley_Igley, Blue and ODK members & Guests

First, welcome to these forums. I'm sure we can help.
I have always called these the first Mayfair base - the V53 and V54
machines made between 1965 and 1968.

The first Mayfairs (Stencil is an synonym for store brand) did not
appear with any identification they were Victas. The cowling on your
machine has the Victa logo.

Second, having the muffler on the same side as the height adjuster is a no-no.
This leads me to believe that your machine is a 'bitsa'.
It's a shame the stencil is missing from the base.

Hope this helps.

I would say Mayfair base with a Sheerline engine.

As CyberJack said muffler does appear to be on the wrong side.Much like the Sheerline has it on that side. Also the Sheerline emblem is on the front of the cowl.
So I agree it's a bitsa and has had an engine change.

Here for a good time, not a long time.
