Hi Guys,

I'm rebuilding a Victa Mulch or Catch MCA201G (I'll post a thread with pics, full strip and clean), but I had a question about the decompression valve. The original valve had a lot of dirt built up around it and in the four holes on the back, so I have removed and cleaned it out, but I have noticed that the filter inside the valve has come apart. The valve still operates correctly and doesn't leak, so I wanted to know how important the filter was, and since I cannot open the unit, whether I should feed a strip of sponge/filter material through one of the holes on the back?

I'm happy to spend the money for a new serviceable valve, but I want to get the engine running again before I drop some $$ into it. So would it be fine to run the engine in a clean environment with a valve minus the filter?

Cheers,
Mark

I'm not familiar with the machine at all but if it is a valve to release compression, perhaps it is more of a spark arrestor than a filter as such since stuff would be coming out of it rather than going in, wouldn't it?

Thanks for your response mate.

Here is a link to the valve in the online store:

There are Aussie-made non-genuine Victa deco valves available, which are repairable. And they're quite a bit cheaper than genuine.
They have 3 spring clips which hold the lid onto the body. Which is exactly what the early Victa valves used.

You'll have to check with Bruce, but I think this is one: Vortex deco valve. Note that it has a right-angle, not straight, connector for the hose. But this can be swapped from your old unit, if you are careful.

The ODK Shop also stocks Victa deco Repair Kits .

I wouldn't recommend running the deco valve without the filter, really. It does suck air in, as well as choof it out, when it's open. Edit: And in my area anyway, the open vent holes would be a mud wasp magnet, for sure.

Thanks, that makes sense. I'll look into ordering a serviceable unit and replace the original.
