Definitely Flat/Squared off.... No angle. Exactly how they appear in your first image.

Are they not biting? Make sure you pretension the spring 2 full turns before you tie the handle, as this will ensure correct freeplay, and allow it to grab nicely. It will nearly always slip, engage late or be Jerky if you dont. smile

And if only one end of each is worn, just flip the pawls end-for-end, to bring the unworn ends into use.
