:(Hi bruce,
The clutch arrived in the mail as expected. There is one small problem, the threaded hole in the middle is too small. The original would be around an 8mm threaded hole whereas the one you suplied is approx 6mm (this of course is approximate as it will possibly be an imperial thread,if it was manufactured in the states).I can get the thread re-taped to suit no worries at my local engineering work shop, but is the clutch suitable for my saw??? A smaller output shaft size may be for a smaller capacity saw and a weaker clutch??? Overall the thing looks exactly the same except for the centre.Don't know where to go from here, any thoughts??
Regards GAC

Gac,

As the saws operate at the same RPM it should not make any difference. The centre hole will be not be metric as McCulloch is imperial. If you can get the centre hole drilled out and tapped the clutch will work ok. woot

The supplier of the clutch (Genuine) advised me that it was correct according to the picture that you posted as well as the part number that I supplied. bigshock

Howdy! I would not throw it away. The more work you do on it, the closer you get to understanding the machine; and others. Cheap machines can work very well if you you look after them and take the time to reset them for optimum performance. A lot of dudes restore old machines, even the cheaper ones. You may be able to pick up a second hand one for $7 at a community market; not going, for spares. Also look at some hard trash gear in your local area, at specified times. I met a guy the other the day that purchased a ship container load of various old chain saws etc. Even if you loose money, it is great to see your project running! I suspect you may have a pop off pressure problem. You really need to understand your own machine when dealing with older 2 stroke engines. Cheers and good luck! chainsaw

Hi everyone just an update to say the saw still runs fine and starts, most times ,first pull.Just not enough trees around my home to have an excuse to pull it too often and fire it up. This is great site.Cheers GAC
