Im certain This was already answered in your first post Thread size is 1/2 BSF 16. The Hex/Spanner size is irrelevant...

Im certain This was already answered in your first post Thread size is 1/2 BSF 16. The Hex/Spanner size is irrelevant... But we should maybe note, that the hex size of the OEM Victa nut is NOT the British Standard size for that thread! It's larger. Ref: 'Machinery's Handbook', 23rd edn.

Yes of course....But I was more under the assumption he was after the thread size, not the Hex size as he has already removed the Plate assy and would know the Socket size

Yeah, it's a bit difficult to work out what he's really after, and why.
However, we've given him as much info as we can about that nut and its idiosyncrasies, without getting into the detailed technicalities of screw thread specs [forms and pitches etc.]!
Cheers, Gadge

Hello Moderator Gadge and Blue,
Yes, I have just replied (again) to this issue. In terms of prior knowledge, it may be that graham22 did not use a socket at all, perhaps a plumber's wrench is all he has...
Graham22 needs to respond and reply to the advice already given.

I'm glad your on the mend Graham, a lucky escape indeed.
Please don't confuse our responses as arrogant, as we are merely trying to ascertain the exact problem from what can be seen.... The blade slip issue, and the correct nut thread type was my assumption, So you could purchase a new one to fit the shaft correctly.
I'm again under the assumption, that the nut is hitting the Boss tangs before it touches the blade plate to lock it down, causing it to slip. If you still have had no success rectifying this, I may be able to offer another option with images.
We are not all young, infact quite a large portion of members are over the 50 mark and many are retired and trying to keep busy with their particular passions.
Unfortunately, some of your questions were slightly criptic, and we were having a little trouble trying to understand exactly where you were getting stuck, so we could give the correct answers.
I think there is enough information for you to find your way around the problem.
Please feel free to ask anything in regards to things you don't know, as this is exactly why we are here....To help and also to learn, not to belittle the knowledge of others.
From time to time, things get lost in translation, and I think we are all of the age to realise that's all it is.
Goodluck with your repairs, and I hope we haven't detered you from visiting, and learning in the future.
Regards Mal.

Yes...
If the muffler is already off, hook the curved side of the retaining clip under the engine bolt first. Put the muffler on and pull it back on an angle so you can slip the clip side over the muffler lip.
Now move to the top and repeat the process. Clip to engine side first, keeping tension on the muffler unit and draw the clip over the top muffler lip.
There is a fair bit of tension, and either a clamp on the upper lip will help, being careful not to put it directly on the flat of the muffler.
Or use a rod or bar to pass through the clip hole and pull it back and over the lip...
It's not a Mower I normally work on, but I've done a few. Maybe other members will have better or more correct way to fit it.
See how you go...

Hello Graham22!In response to this topic 'nut' - welcome back mate! Thanks to member Blue for clarifying our position. We are here to help as best we can. It is important, particularly in topics involving safety (example: blade holders) that we give quality advice and get good feedback from you about that advice. So your comment, "Lets stick to the questions and answers" is a great point mate! It is important to us that we get good feedback to our questions. I asked you some questions HERE. Any feedback would be welcome - particularly about the bladeholder (as it involves safety). We need to be assured that you have followed our advice about this. Now, your current question about spring clips on the muffler? I guess you want to know how to fit the two spring clips on a Victa engine muffler. Is that right? A photo would be helpful. I'm not an expert on Victa engines, but Moderators and members are. They most certainly will help you once we comprehend your needs. [Member Blue has just replied (above). Please let us know if that was helpful to you.] p.s. No "side swipes" about Kiwis here This is a forum that attracts international guests, with fantastic comments, questions, and information from New Zealanders. They are most valued. Hope this helps.--------------------------------- JACK.
