hi all posted some pics of a old howard junior rotary hoe I am doing up, I have two juniors both are incomplete so I am trying to build one good one out of the two,
i cleaned out the fuel and oil tank, oil lines, engine sump, cleaned the points and re gaped , carby butterfly shaft had rusted away, made a new shaft from brass, main jet needle rusted away so i made a new one form some piano wire ,made new exhaust, most of the bolts on the frame are that rusted they have to be cut off, the height adjustment shaft was rusted solid .
its now running very well, blowing no smoke and pumping oil back up to the oil tank, took it for a drive around the back yard and all gears are working, it has 1 ,2 ,3 ,forward no reverse ,
i still have a lot of assembly work to do , after its all together and working then i will strip it , new paint , oil lines fuel lines ect
i also have a howard terrier, these are great old aussie made machines built to last , even if left under a tree for 20 plus years
will post some more pics when finished

cheers damo

sorry cant get pictures to load up ,HTML box wont drop down to UBB, don't know if that's the problem ???

Hello Dodgey Gadge, and ODK members,

What a good ol' boy.
Look at the size of the gears in that gear case!

Thanks for sharing this old timer on ODK.

hi cyberjack thanks for the howard info ,made my day and have printed it out , recently spoke to some one who worked for a dealer ship that sold howards in Ringwood vic in the 1970s, and in his opinion the old juniors were the best diggers due to the weight from heavy gears weighing down rota tines, thanks again damo

I have and it was still in use until recently the twin cylinder howard, a very tough rugged machine. At present I cant get pics as its in my familys farm shed 850km away in launceston. Worst proablem it ever had was getting the magneto rebuilt, a fine art lost in the sands of time.

hi MrMckay please put some pics up of your howard twin when you get a chance , now that would be quite a beast , there great old machines and built to last , I know what you mean about magnetos being lost in time , this generation would not know what one was . nothings repaired any more , just throw away and buy a new one. cheers damo
