Hi
I have a oldish cox ride on mower with the gv400 engine. Its electric start only and the starter motor has chucked itself in iam pretty sure. Theres no starters on ebay that i can find and all the pictures of gv400s i have seen are electric start only. So does anyone know where i can get another starter motor and other question is can a pull start be fitted?
Cheers nathan smile

Nathan, I have one with a pull starter.
As for finding a starter motor, I'm not sure.
In my experience parts for these engines are expensive.
In the past I have bought a wrecked ride on just for the engine.

The illustration of the GV400 in the workshop manual shows the engine with a recoil starter, and there is a section in the manual on how to maintain the recoil starter. I don't know how common it was for ride-on manufacturers to order engines without that starter, perhaps so they could get a lower cost or bonnet line, but it is a normal item for the engine.

If you buy a starter, don't forget to get the matching parts of the engine - such as the starter cup that is attached to the top of the crankshaft. It's easier to do this by getting the parts from a wrecked engine rather than loose parts, and if possible take them off yourself. Remember, the guy selling them probably doesn't care whether you get a full set of parts or not.
