Hi, new to the forum, some great information in here! Has anyone done an engine swap on one of these? has the east west Tecumseh 12.5 engine, trying to fit a Honda GXV390.

Have almost finished the conversion, just sorting the muffler out, I don't know why greenfield decided that the tecumseh was the only engine for that model?

At a guess, price might have been a factor. Depending how the deal was structured, it might have been worth Greenfield's while to push the Tecumseh engine pretty hard.

Saw one at a local yard sale once with a Chonda in it. Seemed to be doing the job okay but he wanted too much money for it. I ended up getting a 17 hp Rover Rancher from the dump shop in exchange for some Ironbark fence posts.

Here are some pics of the conversion, just finishing the muffler fit which will be at the front.

The drive pedal may get hot, it did have a heat shield and it is going back on, will have to test.

This was the main problem, the header pipe, a new one had to be made to clear the chassis and the drive pedal, next time maybe straight through the chassis. (never!)

Had to raise the bonnet at the front to clear the fuel tank, a couple of victa engine mount plates are perfect!

Muffler will be at the front after some more modds.

Well it's a much nicer engine than a Tecumseh Red, it's just a matter of getting the installation right. Is one of your bonnet mounting screws too short? Looks like the bracket it's holding needs its corner filed, too.

The main issues I'd be concerned about are making things clear each other rather than rattle against each other, and supporting the muffler where its weight is, rather than having it overhang a long way from the flange mount at the exhaust port.

That's a good mower and an excellent engine. It's up to you to make it a good installation, so you get full benefits from the change.

Its a customer job which is going to be a bit more expensive now because of the mods, it had to work otherwise we would have a worthless greenfield with a genuine 145 hours on the clock!

A near-new Greenfield is worth enough money to justify attaching the muffler properly Red. More importantly, your relationship with your customer will be better if your muffler installation lasts as long as that Honda, which will probably be quite a few hundred hours.
