Hi Jezza555, and a warm welcome to the forum. It's great to have you aboard. grin
I have moved your post to the correct forum.

A link to the Owner's/Operators Manual can be found HERE

The Specifications of your machine are:
DISPLACEMENT: 20 cc
OUTPUT: 0.7 kW
DRY WEIGHT: 4.7 kg
CARBURETTOR :Diaphragm Type
FUEL CAPACITY: 450 ml
FUEL 50:1 RATIO: Two-cycle Oil mix 25:1 ratio
Hopefully one of our 2 Stroke gurus will chime in here and give you some advice as to a plan of attack. wink

Once again, :welcome: to OutdoorKing.
cheers2

Hi jezza, that trimmer is one I haven't seen, and at this point I haven't found any other brand it is sold under. I notice that it is a full-crank design of 20 cc, and the L20 version seems to be straight shaft.

Please post pictures of the trimmer, showing the engine and the ignition switch in particular. Since you believe you have an ignition problem, we can start with that. Remove the spark plug, then re-attach the plug lead and hold the metal body of the plug in contact with a metal part of the engine. With the ignition switched on, pull the starter cord while watching the gap between the electrodes to see if you get an even stream of blue sparks.

OK, so the next steps are to try a different spark plug, then try holding the spark plug lead itself close to the metal, and if both of those fail, find out why there is no spark. (I can tell you though, that quite a few people find it was the spark plug that was at fault.)

When there really is no spark, it is usually because of a fault in the kill-switch (engine-stop switch) circuit. This seems especially likely in the case of your machine, because from the owner manual, it seems that the owner has to connect the wires involved as part of the initial assembly process when he buys the machine. So, you will need to disconnect the wires that go to the kill switch, at their connectors just outside the magneto. After disconnecting them, make sure there are no bare metal bits that could touch something: and we need to see pictures of what you have done. Then see if it suddenly has spark.

Remember, if you establish definitely that the kill switch wiring is not the problem, the next step has to be trying another magneto, which is likely to be uneconomic to do. Hence you've got a lot riding on finding a cause of no spark that is external to the magneto unit.

1. The Bushranger products are re-badged Maruyama machines from Japan.
2. The build quality and engineering design of these machines places them at the top end of the market. If the machine is in otherwise good condition and you did need to replace the ignition coil (about $130), it may be a worthwhile investment.

Maruyama may not be well known here in Australia, however they are one of the leading component and assembly manufacturers for 'high end' hand held OPE products. Many of the (so called) market leading brands rely on Maruyama power transmission components to provide trouble free operation in their over priced products.

You can be part of the problem.....or part of the solution.
IT'S YOUR CHOICE...EVERY TIME!
