Hello
ODK members,
The
Ransomes Conquest was years' ahead of its time.
When it was introduced, in the
1950s, it was space-aged - a real 'streamliner'
of the future. However, it didn't really go anywhere and it is now super-rare.
This was a
12" side-wheel hand-mower with a difference.
It was streamlined by a metal cover, hiding its humble origins.
It had some not-common features as well.
[1] It was
chain drive, most uncommon for a side-wheel.
[2] Its greatest feature was that the reel extended
beyond the drive wheels.
[This permitted the cutting of sunken garden borders.]
[3] Its total enclosure of the reel was a key
safety feature.
