MF, My double impact gun has been known to split a few sockets
Even impact ones or are you talking about regular ones? I occasionally use a regular multi hex for the 1" nut used with the full cranks. I only have impact sockets in metric sizes. I imagine it would open up like a flower with yours.
Ahh, if only victa had kept producing the thumblatch catcher series, they would be in better shape today!
And my experience with the gears are you are probably better off without them unless you want to restore this to original. If you just want to mow the lawn I would just use it as a push mower.I have one (slasher type) that drives no problem but it is near impossible to pull backwards
I cut them off, see the post. Nothing left. Mine was missing wheel cogs as well. Probably the gearbox was faulty.. Maybe yours is the same... That's why people take the cogs out... speedy

If the gearbox is ok then I'm guessing the PO pulled the gears out for the same reason I'm having problems with the one I have, easy to push forward no problems, but just about impossible to pull it backwards, with or without the motor running.
