I am after the plans/drawings for the 3 speed g/box so,
1. I can pull it apart, without pulling stuff apart I don't need to.
2. get the part # for the gears and what ever parts I need so somebody else can put it together, the local mower place I think, as I am unsure/haven't got a clue on what the setting of the shims and so forth needed to be adjusted to make it work.

I don't mind doing all the pulling apart and cleaning and rebuilding up to the stage that I can do, but with the serious stuff I will go to somebody that has a much better idea than I do. Plus he is a older gentleman so, he will have worked on them before.

Hi besser_au,
I have contacted Bruce, (Forum admin and site owner) about the availability of gearbox parts for the 1979 Rover Rancher 2 Model 11046, as he feels that they will not be available and are very thin on the ground.
Second hand parts may be your only option. wink
cheers

Thanks that what I have heard from my local mower repairer, he said as it is a Foote gearbox it would be hard getting parts. He said they were hard to to get parts 20 yrs ago. I found this page http://www.searspartsdirect.com/par...Model-33864A/0736/1509200/WL000261/00010 looks similar but as you can see most of the parts are unavailable any way.

Hi again besser_au,
From the research we have done, we can now say that they are definitely not available. You are not alone here, many machines discussed here on the forum, are in the same boat....parts new or second hand very thin on the ground and some...no parts available at all. wink

Maybe you could put up a post in the forum 'wanted' topic for a gearbox or parts for same, also check Gumtree and eBay...you never know you may be lucky. wink
cheers

What is the type of grease that is in the gear box, looks like a jellied oil more than the normal grease. and is there any technical drawings of the gears mainly Rover part no.s 252( bevel gear 42 tooth ) & 271 ( pinion gear bevel 16 tooth).

Foote only used two grease types, according to this guide which is around on the web:

The 2820 and 2840 gearboxes were both worm drive, so for your box it looks like Shell Darina '0' is correct.
I found a TDS for that; it was a bentonite clay thickened, NLGI #0, Extreme Pressure grease.

The closest Shell current product is 'Shell Gadus S2 V220 0' grease. Castrol Spheerol EPL0 and Penrite Semi Fluid Grease would be two near matches.

Gadge

I have sourced a 5 speed Peerless G/box, it will cost about the same or less than the gears for the Foote. The mechanic said they are better and easier g/box to use, whether or not this turns out to be true only time will tell.

hi Besser...

did that Peerless Gear Box work for you. I am trying to get a replacement gear box for my old Rover Rancher 2 and struggling. Was wondering if there are any other replacements that would fix.

regards M
