If your trimmer has a WALBRO or a ZAMA carb, try starting your adjustment at 1 full turn out. If you are having to run with the choke 1/2 on, then you will more than likely need a carb kit (Diphraghms & Gaskets).
If so, get me the series & model # of the carb & I can tell you which kit you need.
