The next mower I want to do up is a Powerplus. Have already scabbed the coil of it so was very happy to be given 2 Full Crank side yanks, one a High Compression. Also want to put one on a 70 Series side throw.

Grabbed one and first checked the coil...no good. Took the head off, all good has all fins etc., pulled the barrel.. good condition, piston good, even the rings! Looked into the crank only to see rust!!
Second one, the HC, good coil:D good barrel, piston and rings as well, but alas....rust on the counterweights(?). This one was really tight, that is no play anywhere and bearings felt good, definitely would have not stripped the crank.

BTW have sprayed with oil to slow rust down.

Guess my question is, presuming I will have to strip the cranks, would I have to replace the bearings?

EDIT: Forgot to mention HC one had a serviceable PP muffler!

as far as the rust goes , seperate the crank case and id replace top and bottom seal and main shaft bearings and clean up the crank as best you can in petrol with steel wool
doesnt look to bad

Thanks Tomo,
suppose the bearings would be rusted too. Will definitely do seals.
