I realise this thread is a little old, but with the carby picture you have there I think the float is installed upside down. From memory the brass fork part that is visible in the photo should be straddling the groove in the needle.
You probably already know that and this picture was just there for another purpose but I thought just in case I better mention something

No worries Dave, you're right, that was just for the photo, I did have it the right way when I tried to test it.
Did you ever solve this one, I have a victa mitre master deluxe that has the exact same symptoms, cold it may start, splutters and chugs for 5 seconds and then dies off. Operating the throttle does not seem to improve it. In my case have not cleaned the carby yet, mower was left under a tree for a few years. I did remove petrol tank and clean it out - had signs of water - milky.
I am another bloke who looks at old posts. Now it has come to pass that today I found out with a VC Sports, what Jo & vccomm meant about this model needing the correct air intake. Upon refurbishing the VC it played up like Tiger's symptoms UNTIL I refitted the snorkel AND air filter (air filter was in pretty ugly condition) and then it went like a train, like I had hoped it would. Anyone know where I can get an air filter for the light green air filter box? regards all.
Yep that sounds about right 2 strokes do like there are free they like to be be able to work for it. I guess without a filter to slow it down they get to much air. Interesting air cleaner that of something like an early Cortina 2 not a VC-Sports. Anyway those ones can take the larger air filter. Not sure if Bruce has them in his shop,I'm sure he would,if not I hate to say this but Bunnings & or eBay.

Wow can't believe nobody didn't answer you I was a little in active at that time. Not sure if you still long in,but I'll answer as best I can. Sounds like it could well be a dirty carby. Especially if you found milky fuel in the tank. All the best and hope your still around.
No gave up in the end, tried replacing carby among other things but probably did not explore the air restriction/supply as thoroughly. It consumed heaps of time for not much gain.
Didn't have anywhere to store it so it went out on the hard waste, think I offered it to people here but no-one wanted it. Wife would have divorced me if I spent anymore time on it.
Hello Tomo and all others of the forum. In relation to this matter of G3 carburettors, I recently purchased 2 used units, in the hope of stripping them both down to make one good unit, which ended up being quite successful. The end result was a working rebuilt G3 on my Victa Mayfair. When assessing the jets it appeared to me that there were 2 distinctly different sized bores in these jets- as this was going on a 125 cc engine, I used the smaller of the 2 jets, assuming the larger for the 160 cc version of these pre Powertorque 2 stroke engines from Victa. It ran beautifully- 2 nd spin from cold from the trip starter, after a good cleanup and overhaul. Is this the case- 2 sized jets for the 2 different displacement engines, or was I seeing things, being an early bird in the garage???
