Nice score and a nice price! I have a very similar solid deck 17" here too, I really like the early models. Look forward to seeing it finished one day Michael

Hi SB Obsession,As you would probably know from previous threads on ODK, the numbers don't help in dating a particular machine. The Kirby Lauson (Tecumseh) engine doesn't help much as they don't have a date of manufacture as part of their model type and code as Briggs and Stratton does. However, being a solid deck Model 45 with a Kirby, the earliest date it could be is early to mid 1968.

Hi SB Obsession, Congrats on a good score there, that is an early example of a 14" Series 2 (twin rail engine deck) Scotty with the darker paint colour, Kirby Tecumseh ()Lauson) engine and the early brass ID tag. This machine would have been manufactured about the mid 1970's. It has plenty of life left in the cylinder reel, in fact it looks like it has never been sharpened... We need to see pics inside the chain-case to be able to assess the condition of the chains and sprockets. A nice machine and should restore well.

I havent tried to start it. There is a crack in the frame which has been welded up before which should be easily fixed. I work with fitters and sheet metal workers and they believe they can repair it for me easily enough. I do have a catcher but it has seen better days, I am going to look at making a new one out of the same material they use on the Honda's. I will keep you updated if I go to do this. I may be pulling this one down this friday seeing I am waiting for some parts for my current restoration. Deejay I will post some photos of the chains and sprockets hopefully next weekend. The original SB 45 at the top of this page that my father got for nothing for me looks like it may have a new home at his place

Yes SB, fathers have a habit of doing that! Anyway, he has got himself a nice solid deck 17" model 45, that providing some routine maintenance is carried out, has a sharp reel and bedknife....and the Kirby behaves itself...he should have hours of mowing pleasure... However you may get the job of getting it to that condition. Good luck,
