Hi All, picked this up as a trade-in a couple of weeks ago. The GV150 runs really sweet and has heaps of grunt for a 34 year old engine so i'll probably use it to re-engine a little bob/big bob, or another more "stylish" utility. My question really is, what is the mower it's sitting on?

That base is spectacularly ugly, but properly tooled. Seems like something made by a small firm, where the boss believed his natural talents enabled him to do anything, including industrial design. It is worth putting in a museum somewhere, to show how you can mess up a new product's success prospects through stupidity.

That's generous of you Ted, but my interest is limited to finding out if my guess is right. Our best hope of solving that is having another member recognise it and tell us who made it. Other than that, I think that thick base would make useful aluminium scrap for someone less aesthetically sensitive than I am, to take to a scrapyard.

I am ambivalent about those side valve Hondas. To me, they are a bit better than the equivalent Briggs engines, but I only really like the pushrod ones. In fact, I have more enthusiasm for chondas than for any kind of side valve mower engines.

its very similar to a pace, but does hold some attributes to a couple of jetfast mowers I have had over the years.

Well, i was speaking to Rodeobob a couple of weeks ago and he seems to think this mower is a "braggs" or "bragg".
Anyway it's long been parted up and scrapped and this is the new result, a 21" Viking MB455U with the GV150 on top:

Hi Theo,

It looks a million bucks.

I was curious how you make the assessment of swapping engines to a new style base to ensure the shaft isnt too long or short.

As for shaft length the viking had a 5hp briggs with the standard 75mm shaft length. The honda was the same but even in the event of being unsure i normally bolt them on and then fit the boss and blade assembly and space up accordingly if need be.
